10% off mark. products – today only

lucy hale mark. brand ambassador

yesterday’s snow storm has me experiencing a major case of winter blues. i think monday marks the 18th “snow day” that we’ve had in the dc area so far this winter and i could not be more ready for spring.

like a little beacon of light, mark. is offering 10% off all of their gorgeous products (which include lots of options for fresh spring color!) today only in celebration of brand ambassador lucy hale’s spring season finale of pretty little liars with code PLL10.

this spring, i’m looking to add products to my collection that are equal parts bright and wearable – things that represent my style without being over-the-top expensive. right off the bat, i honed in on mark. blooming pretty highlighting face powder ($16) as the perfect way to add a soft sheer glow to my cheeks who are desperately craving color. (for the record, i’d pair it with this fluffy blush + bronzer brush ($8) to get the ideal placement of pink.) to balance things out, i can’t get enough of the go-to neutrals in the color swing eye palette ($20). they are just what my hazel eyes need to counteract that bold cheek pop! then, just for fun and as a little icing on the cake, it’s impossible to resist the combination of sunny yellow and spring-ready mint (plus that cocktail ring!) in the nail this look set ($28).

i’m thinking these are just the ticket to helping me fight off the blahs brought on by this never-ending winter. will you take advantage of 10% off mark’s spring goodness?

love day loves

love day loves

a day that celebrates love of all kinds is definitely something that i can get behind. while i tend to think that valentine’s day can be a bit overdone, i just can’t help but support a holiday that encourages chocolate and kissing. it also brings out my inner girly girl in a big way and this year i’m craving all kinds of pretty things to help me celebrate in style.

1 – festive nonpareils (my most favorite candy) in a decadent dark
chocolate heart from edward marc chocolatier, $10

2 – five sweet, soft and stretchy hair ties from mane message, $7.40

3 – techno bubblegum nails by deborah lippmann, $18

4 – a gorgeous springtime glow in the prettiest powder blush from mark., $14

5 – a sparkling, flapper-inspired fragrance bursting with spirit from tocca, $20

6 – punchy pink peony lips that are nourished and non-sticky from jouer, $20

7 – a chic + cheery mini pouch in gold + coral from stephanie johnson, $33

green eyed lady: kaley cuoco sweeting

kaley cuoco golden globes 2014 green eyes

did you watch last night’s red carpet before the golden globes? i thought the beauty gazing was very ho hum, with one major exception: kaley cuoco’s beyond-gorgeous, green, slightly smokey, winged-out cat eyes.

i mean, stop the presses, what is even happening here?

after i collected myself from the excitement, i got down to the business of learning more about this beautiful phenomenon and was not at all surprised to find that kaley’s longtime makeup artist and friend, jamie greenberg, was responsible for the mastery. i became intimately familiar with jamie’s work over the past year while working with mark. and i have fallen madly in love with her youtube channel – which you must visit. she’s adorably hilarious and you just want her to crawl out of your computer and be your bestie.

but anyway, back to the beauty. here’s what jamie used to craft kaley’s stunning emerald eyes:

the result is stunning, stunning, stunning and the eyes are perfectly paired with a nude lip (mark. make it rich in naturally, $11) for ultimate impact.

think you’ll take a note from jamie and kaley and play with green shades around your eyes? are there any other beauty hits that i may have missed last night?

my ten favorite product finds of 2013

it’s been a very good year for the glossarie and the growth of my beauty bag and makeup routine is further proof of all the wonderful products that i was introduced to in 2013. ten products have become everyday, you-will-have-to-pry-them-out-of-my-cold-dead-hands favorites. these are the bars against which all other products in their category are measured. so without further ado, here are the best of the best:

top 10 of 2013

1 – chapstick hydration lock

2 –stila countless color pigment in lyric

3 – mark. make it rich lip crayon – how these never made it into their own post,
i will never know! coverage is creamy and intense, super comfortable and long-wearing. peony is my winter shade of choice, with punch being my year-round go-to.

4 – maybelline volum’express the falsies big eyes

5 – smashbox camera ready cc cream

6 – bite lush lip tint in orchard – another product that snuck into the top 10 without a post. this glossy, moisturizing, hot pink is the one thing that wakes me up each
morning. i’m obsessed with the formula and the color is so poppy and fresh.

7 – benefit gimme brow

8 – my partnership with simple skincare in 2013 was a true blessing for my problem skin! i have fallen in love with every product in the range and i love the calm, clear effects
that each one delivers with no surprises as to how my skin will react.

9 – real techniques expert face brush

10 – jouer perfume oil

is there something that you discovered via the glossarie
that’s still holding steady in your daily beauty routine?

recipe for a good hair day (and then some)

mark. + davines + klorane = perfect hair day

my hair products are constantly rotating and sometimes i find myself forgetting which combination of things was (at least recently) giving me my best hair. there has been an extra surplus of hair potions shuffling their way through the glossarie hq as of late, but three of them truly stand out as awesome little performers. behold, your recipe for a good hair day – and days to come:

mark. prep for it hair primer, $16 – i didn’t know that primer was a step my hair was missing, but this spray lotion protects from heat styling, pumps up the volume when layered with my other styling products and gives my hair a grit that keeps it from getting greasy on day two – extending my style for an additional 24 hours.

davines this is a relaxing moisturizing fluid, $26 – this new collection from davines is as beautiful on the outside as the products are effective on the inside. the lightweight lotion leaves my hair smooth and shiny and cuts my flat iron time in half. it relaxes my curls and gives me my absolute best hair, the kind that hangs just how i want it.

klorane dry shampoo with nettle, $18 – finally a dry shampoo made just for those of us with oily hair. this aerosol spray zaps oil and gives serious oomph. instead of layering product on top of my greasy roots, the addition of nettle extract actually fights grease on days two and three to deliver day one hair all over again.

mark. video products

in august i spent an afternoon at the mark. offices filming a handful of videos for some of their exciting new products. i had the absolute best time hanging out with the mark. team who are, not surprisingly, an insanely fun group of girls. they made me feel so comfortable on camera and i loved getting my hands on all of the new products and accessories a full season ahead of the masses. i easily identified several favorites and we shot my thoughts on why they’re each so fab. if you’re finding yourself with a little time in your rainy sunday, click on through to take a peek at my youtube debuts! i’m super proud of them :)

not-so-scary serums

not-so-scary serums

i’m easily intimidated by things like masks and serums. deep down i’m not always sure why i need them and don’t even get me started on trying to figure out which one is best. worst of all, even if i think i’m making the right call, how do i know that my skin won’t completely freak out? ugh.

but the results and impact that a serum can have on the skin is just too tempting to leave untested, so this little beauty blogger has gotten brave and i’m happy to say that i’m more than impressed with some of the things in serum land.

supergoop city sunscreen serum spf 30, $42
i fell in love with this one during the summer, but it has already saved me on more than one stunning pre-fall day on the soccer field sidelines. this broad spectrum spf protects skin, moisturizes, and combats premature aging. i like knowing that it’s fighting the effects of both future and past sun damage. the formula is lightweight, super smooth to apply and my makeup glides over top. i use it alone as an spf and also as a priming booster under my favorite foundation.

mark youth movement skin perfecting serum, $20
quite possibly the ideal starter serum, mark has created a lightweight and fast-absorbing formula. antioxidants like goji berry and pomegranate slow down any noticeable signs of aging and also fade acne marks with the quickness. my skin is smoother, brighter, and far less dull with fewer age spots and a much more even tone. for $20 i’m feeling like this stuff is worth its weight in gold. leave it to mark to create such a super-powered little skin saver!

murad advanced active radiance serum, $89
murad’s vitamin c-packed serum means serious business. if you’re looking for a potent product to tackle environmental damage, spur cell renewal, and prevent future pigmentation from occurring this is your solution. the formula exfoliates skin, supports natural collagen production and works aggressively to improve radiance. i find that my skin is plumper and clearer in the mornings and it hasn’t done a thing to irritate my sensitivity.

mark. 10th anniversary party with brand ambassador lucy hale

lucy hale

i trained up to nyc on monday to celebrate a momentous occasion: mark’s 10th anniversary party. the event was at the trump soho (gorgeous!) and featured their new brand ambassador, lucy hale. mark. really rolled out the red carpet for me, arranging hair with greg ruggeri and makeup with grace ahn – i was having the time of my life before i even set foot inside the party. after i was all dolled up, and before the festivities kicked off, i had a quick meet and greet with lucy! she is beyond adorable, completely refreshing, and very down to earth.

right off the bat, lucy told me that she loves what mark. and avon stand for. beyond her insanely busy schedule filming pretty little liars and recording her first album, lucy expressed that she wanted her next project to be just a little bit more than promoting a product. she has already attached herself to the mark. m.powerment message, feeling as though she was put here to do something bigger than her already impressive accomplishments.

of course we got to talking beauty and she has honed in on some early brand favorites like the make it rich lip pencil, touch & glow and the new on the dot smokey eye color compact. she, like me, really loves promoting something that she really loves. when i asked her if she had any trade secrets, she told me:

“i’ve loved makeup since i was a little kid. i’ve always been fascinated by it and i love going into sephora. i did my sister’s makeup for her wedding – it was pretty good, i’m not going to lie. i have learned what works for my face and how to apply things, what colors make my eyes pop.”

lucy has killer eyebrows, so it’s no surprise that they are her favorite feature to play up. i could not stop staring at them – serious brow envy! before we scooted off to celebrate, i asked lucy what is the best piece of beauty advice that she had been given, and i loved her response:

“no matter how bad your day is, we all have things that we are insecure about. it’s important to find one thing that you love about yourself and embrace it.”

love it. loved her. endless thanks to mark. and lucy for such a fun and fabulous day!

fake it ‘til you make it

get glowing

i love a good beach tanning session as much as the next gal, but it’s hard to ignore the health hazards that laying out in the sun can bring. to keep my dermatologist happy and my skin bronze for bikini season, i’m turning to these tried and true products.

jergen’s natural glow daily moisturizer ($8.69) – i’ve used this for years and its non-sticky application and subtle glow always carries me through. i use it every other day, and right after a shower to ensure smooth coverage. jergen’s now has an unscented, firming version as well.

sonia kashuk chic luminosity bronzer/blush duo in glimmer ($12.99) – this is the perfect combination of bronze and pink, and though it’s called “glimmer” it does not contain any trace of shimmer or sparkle, which i appreciate.

benefit watt’s up! highlighter ($30) – i’m loving this little treat that was part of my free birthday gift from sephora. a few swipes of this luminizing stick under my brow bones and along my cheekbones is a gorgeous finishing touch to my makeup each morning.

mark’s just pinched instant blush tint in cheeky ($8) – i have to echo lara’s praise for these cute little cheek tints; they have just the right amount of pigment and are super easy to throw in your clutch or purse.

bareminerals marvelous moxie lipgloss in trail blazer ($18) – moxie leaves my lips feeling refreshed and cool (but not in that tingly, painful lip-plumping way). even more so than the sensation, i appreciate the color – a rich, glossy bronze that pairs perfectly with everyday makeup or as the neutral component to a smoky eye.
